A warrior is a man
of strength, first and foremost. Physical strength, spiritual
strength, moral strength, all to the highest level God has allowed
him. All three must be in close unity. I know a man in a
wheelchair that is more a warrior than many of the men I served
with years ago.
A warrior is a man of spiritual knowledge. He trains his mind and
his heart in what is right and good. For many of us that is the
Word of God, but I have met warriors who never read the Bible or
any other such book, yet they embody the traits I mentioned. He is
educated to the ways of the world. He knows how to use a
Blackberry as well as a tomahawk. His views of the world may be
rooted in the past, but he doesn't live there.
A warrior self-selects. He says, "I am a warrior", and then he
lives as he has chosen. Membership in some special unit, or some
such thing is not necessary. I have met dentists and carpenters
that were more of a warrior than some men in uniform.
A warrior is a man of violence and at the same time a man of
kindness. He can at one moment be discussing an issue of theology,
of economics, or teaching his children about something, and at the
instant be killing an adversary with the ferocity of an angel. And
then, be back to his discussion without missing a beat. That is
the goal.
A warrior is a man of selflessness. Before he sleeps, those under
his care will sleep. Before he eats, those in his care will eat.
He does not hold his life cheap, but he believes that there are in
fact things worth fighting, killing, and even dying for. Self
sacrifice is a personality trait of his.
That is what a warrior is. If that is what you want, it is a hard
road, but only you can select it.
