The godfather of self defense is Gabe Suarez.

If you are serious about defending yourself and your family you must train. You must train hard. I believe that it is absolutely a civic responsibility to be prepared for the bad guys. There are many. Every time I go home from a trip on the road I stop at the nearest BP for gasoline. I get interviewed. Those in the know understand the "interview". It is when someone "a bad guy", sizes you up and makes the decision to attack or not. For awhile I enjoyed the interaction. I enjoyed watching these people. I watched them go through the stages. I let one guy get so close as to shake my hand. It was comical and I was lucky. He was a tough man. I am no longer a customer at that station. I am afraid of no man because I study the art. I just can't afford the financial and legal hassles I would incur for defending myself.

And then there is this yahoo from Tennessee.  James Yeager. Training would not be complete without an education from Tactical Response.
